Travel FAQ’s
What Is A Travel Medicine and Travel Vaccine Consultant? Do I Really Need One?
A travel consult means seeing a physician before you travel to be sure you are currently healthy, prepared to take care of any chronic conditions you may have, and most importantly to get updated on your vaccinations. Depending on where you are traveling, malaria prevention medication is also prescribed at a travel consultation. In general, you really should seek a travel consult if you are traveling outside the US, Canada and Western Europe. Ideally, a travel consultation should be done at least 1 month and not more than 3 months before your planned trip.
How Do I Know What Vaccines I Need? How Much Is My Travel Consult Going To Cost?
The CDC website is the gold standard for travel vaccination recommendations. You can read through the recommendations for the area you are traveling to and see which vaccinations you need to get versus which are required. This information constantly changes so it is imperative you check with us each time you travel outside of the United States.
The cost of our travel vaccinations are reasonable and very similar to what our competitors and your primary care office would charge. The benefit of coming to us is that no appointment is necessary, we are open in the evenings and on weekends, and you are usually in and out within an hour.
You will be seen by a physician or Nurse Practitioner who will review your medical history, your specific country/area travel plans based on Playa Vista Medical Center’s Proprietary Travel Website, and then will advise you as to what vaccinations are required and or recommended.
This travel consult fee is in addition to the cost of the vaccine and small vaccine administration charge. Also please be prepared to remain in the office 20 minutes after receiving you vaccines so we can make sure you do not have an adverse reaction.
